When the recording can't go to the cloud

Some recordings are privileged, off-the-record, or simply none of a cloud vendor's business. Quietell was built for the people who can't risk an upload.

⚖️

Lawyers & legal teams

Client calls, witness interviews, hearing audio and prep sessions - transcribed with timestamps and speakers, without sending privileged material to a third-party service.

🔎

Investigators

Internal, corporate, insurance and private investigations. Keep evidence and interviews on the machine that handles them, with an originality hash on every transcript.

🎙️

Investigative journalists

Protect your sources. Transcribe sensitive interviews and long recordings locally, so nothing about your reporting ever leaves your laptop.

Three steps

From recording to transcript in minutes

Drop in a file

Drag any audio or video file (or a whole folder) onto Quietell - mp4, mkv, mov, mp3, wav, m4a and most other formats. If it plays, it probably transcribes. Or record a call or your screen right inside the app.

Choose private or fast

Run fully on your computer for total privacy, or use the cloud (with your own free key) when speed matters and the content isn't sensitive.

Get a clean transcript

A timestamped, speaker-labeled transcript appears next to your file. Review, fix low-confidence words, rename speakers, and export to TXT, DOCX, SRT or VTT.

Private means private

Not "secure in the cloud." Just not in the cloud.

Other tools promise encryption and compliance badges - but your audio still leaves your control. Quietell's private mode is different: the file is transcribed on your own CPU and never uploaded anywhere.

On-device processing

In private mode, transcription runs locally with an on-device model. The audio is never sent over the internet.

Private-Only lock

Turn on Private-Only and the cloud engine is fully disabled - there's no way for a file to leave the machine by accident.

You hold the keys

No account required to transcribe. No training on your files. An optional originality hash lets you prove a transcript wasn't altered.

Designed to help professionals meet their own confidentiality obligations. You decide, per file, whether anything is ever sent to the cloud.

Questions

What people ask before they trust it

Does my audio really stay on my computer?

In private (on-device) mode, yes - your file is transcribed locally and never uploaded. If you turn on Private-Only, the cloud engine is disabled entirely, so nothing can leave the machine. The optional cloud mode only sends a file when you explicitly choose it for that file.

Is it accurate enough for professional work?

Don't take our word for it - that's why your first 2 private transcriptions are free. Run them on your own real recordings and judge the accuracy yourself before paying. You can flag low-confidence words and fix them in the built-in review editor.

What's the difference between Cloud and Pro?

One thing: privacy. Cloud ($30) gives you the entire toolkit - speakers, batch, all exports, recording, editor - using cloud transcription. Pro ($99) adds fully private, on-device transcription that works offline and never touches the internet. If you handle confidential material, you want Pro.

Is there a subscription?

No. Both Cloud and Pro are one-time purchases. The cloud engine uses your own free Groq key, so there's nothing recurring to pay. Optional yearly updates may be offered later, but your version keeps working.

Do I need to be technical? Do I need Python or FFmpeg?

No. Quietell is a normal Windows app with an installer. Everything it needs is bundled. If you can install a program, you can use it.

Which languages are supported?

30+ languages including English and Hebrew. Accuracy varies by language and audio quality - which is exactly why we let you test free on your own files first.

Which file types can I transcribe?

Video: mp4, mkv, mov, avi, webm, wmv, flv, mpeg, mpg, 3gp, m4v, ts. Audio: mp3, wav, m4a, flac, ogg, aac, wma, opus, aiff, amr - and most other audio/video formats. Quietell decodes files with the bundled ffmpeg, so if it plays, it probably transcribes.
